Most of us love the look and feel of leather, especially the soft as butter feel of your favorite purse or jacket. Most of us wear leather jackets or dream about owning that one perfect style we saw at that sassy boutique but couldn’t justify buying at the time. All of the above usually happens in the winter months. So what’s with this spring fashion trend? Look at it as an opportunity to finally own a leather jacket without feeling guilty, because you’re going to be able to wear one a few more months and still be in style.
You can opt for the “punk look” , as shown in the picture to the left, and glitz it up a bit. Or you can lean toward some of the beautiful pastel colors and transition right into spring. My bet is on the more practical silver/grey color that’s been so popular on the runways. The key piece this season is a shortened version of the motorcycle jacket. If you can wear the style, think of the endless outfit options.
Remember those circle skirts I eluded to? Open that cropped leather jacket, layer with any tee or tank that fits the body, and pair with a black or navy full skirt. This would be a fine time to explore the season’s bright colors with a red under it or better yet a stripe tank or top.
Now, I have to admit I haven’t seen a bevy of short leather skirts running around Medford. Maybe I just don’t get out enough. I have to say it though, if you have great legs and a healthy dose of self-esteem, it’s an awesome look. A black leather knee length skirt with a black tight paired with a longer colorful, cotton, jacket for early spring will take you anywhere.
Ok, I know, now I’m going too far. A leather crop? You’re thinking “rural community”, “I’m too old”, “it’s too tight”, “are you serious?” Well, on the model it sure looks fine doesn’t it? Consider this…..a longer tunic top makes it a little more conservative, add a scarf for another layer and some boots or strappy sandals. Sass it up with a vest made from another fabric or a short, non-leather jacket over the tunic.
We all have our own distinct way of dressing. Trends are fun because we can always modify them to fit our look and stay in style. The “biker trend” may be gone in a year or two but leather will always be around.
If leather is absolutely not your thing, perhaps you’ll be more comfortable in jumpsuits?
